The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has issued a statement praising the recent meeting between Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing it as a strategic engagement that signals potential collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.
In their statement, the NDYC characterized the two politicians as “dynamic, young, and visionary leaders” who represent a departure from what they termed “transactional politics and recycled leadership.” The youth organization specifically contrasted this potential alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom they criticized as representing “archaic dynamics of power acquisition.”
The statement highlighted Governor Mohammed’s record in Bauchi State, citing developments in urban renewal, education, healthcare, and social welfare. It also praised Obi’s tenure as Governor of Anambra State, describing it as “a gold standard for economic prosperity, fiscal discipline, and grassroots development.”
The NDYC, through its National Coordinator Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, called for public support of what they termed a “new movement” and described the potential alliance as “a perfect blend of administrative experience, economic brilliance, and progressive leadership.”
Neither Governor Mohammed nor Peter Obi has officially announced any political alliance for the 2027 presidential election. The statement comes as political positioning begins to emerge well ahead of Nigeria’s next general election cycle.
